Dull blade = no cuts

How much of a #11 blade do we actually use in modeling? I use and abuse my blades every way possible, and still end up utilizing only about the first ¼ inch or so at the tip of the blade. The rest of the blade ends up as merely a sharp section that will cut you – especially if you slip while holding the handle close to the business end.
