Chaparral 2D Coupe
Revell-Monogram no. 85-2850
Model Type: Injection-molded styrene
Molded Colors: White, clear
Scale: 1/24
MSRP: $14.95
Pros: Driver figure, decal sheet
Cons: Thick glass, hole in fender from slot-car version

This 35-piece kit was originally a slot car in the 1960s. It was converted to a static model, with a basic static chassis replacing the slot-car running gear.

The parts are molded well for an almost-40-year-old tool. It looks like the mold has been cleaned up; there was less flash than on its previous reissues.

The body definitely has "the look;" however, there is a large hole in the left rear fender that is left over from the slot car's workable-spoiler feature. The windows are rather thick, and the wiper is molded to the windshield (very '60's), so careful painting is required.

Most of the interior is molded in one piece. There is a separate dash, along with the steering wheel and shifter. The driver figure is assembled and painted at the factory, and it's spectacular!

Engine detail consists of a plate that has the intake trumpets molded on. This piece attaches to the bottom of the interior plate. The chassis detail is minimal, but a nice set of Chaparral wheels is included; they should be dechromed.

The star of the kit is the decal sheet. Every marking on the real car is included.

If you want a blast from the past, and a good build, buy this kit.
