Here is another kit from AMT/Ertl's vault of golden oldies. I believe this kit is from the mid-1960s.

I have seen this kit at toy shows, but could never talk myself into paying the prices they were going for. All good things come to those who wait!

For those not familiar with this kit, it is a dragster that AMT built and raced years ago. I have seen pictures of this race car at competitions in older Super Stock magazines.

Considering the age of the kit, it appears to be in good shape. The only things that I found missing from the original kit were the spoke front wheels and rubber tires.

The kit now includes five-spoke mags and plastic tires. The plastic tires are slicks or sand paddles for the rear and skinny front runners. I went to my parts box and found some replacements in rubber that match the tires in the kit.

The top half of the body is clear, which works well to show off the detail of the frame and engine.

The frame is an easy build which consists of the bottom two sides, roll bar, firewall and a rear axle. The front axle is molded to the bottom part of the frame.

"Yeah, it's got a Hemi!" topping it off with a blower. The headers are a bit of a challenge because it has to clear the duct work so the rear body will fit. It took a little trial-and-error, but after I got past this, the hood fit fine.
I made a set of hinges so the hood could be opened to view the engine and fuel tank.

This was a fun kit to build, and I didn't have to pay the price for a 40- year-old kit on eBay or at a swap meet - if one could be found. This new kit should be available at your local suppliers early this summer.
