Polar Lights No. 6811
Model Type: Injection-molded styrene snap kit
Molded Colors: Gray
Scale: 1/25
MSRP: $13.99
Pros: Plated "stainless steel" body; parts for multiple versions
Cons: Mold-separation lines
This curbside kit includes 45 parts. The plated body has a satin finish to simulate the 1:1 car's stainless-steel bodywork. It attaches to a simple platform chassis with music-wire axles and rolling wheels. The wheels, headlights, and taillights have bright chrome plating; the rest of the parts are molded in medium-gray plastic. Parts are included for the "lightning rod" version (shown) or the "Mr. Fusion"-powered car. Two license-plate stickers are included, but oddly, there are no DeLorean emblems; the DeLorean name does not appear anywhere.

Everything seemed to snap together securely, although I did use a dot of super glue here and there to lock things together. The one-piece window is exceptionally clear and thin and snapped into the body perfectly. The interior and rear deck are jammed with the time-machine details, and a little extra time spent detail painting will really bring things to life.

Testor paints are called out on the kit's instruction sheet, and that's what I used on my model. A DVD copy of the first movie helped, too.

Some of the kit parts had noticeable mold-separation lines. Junior modelers probably won't mind them, but more advanced modelers will probably tire of removing them.
