Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
Tamiya No. 89677
Model Type: Injection-molded
styrene
Molded Colors: Red, clear, silver
Scale: 1/24
MSRP: $31.00
Pros: Full-detail kit; great decals
Cons: Ill-fitting windshield and rear window

This is a nicely molded full-detailed kit with a complete chassis and a beautiful four-cylinder engine under the hinged hood. The body is molded in bright-red styrene, and a swatch of see-through black-plastic mesh is included for the grille opening. Separate door handles, turn-signal lights, side-view mirrors, and windshield wipers add a lot of detail.

The windshield and rear window install from outside the body shell, and these thin, clear parts have their chrome surrounds molded in place. I covered the surrounds with Bare-Metal Foil and glued the windows in place with white glue. The parts don't fit exceptionally well, and the rear window on my model has a pronounced gap along its bottom edge. The side windows install from inside the body shell and fit perfectly.

The chassis, engine, and interior subassemblies all went together without a hitch. As with many of Tamiya's car kits, all four wheels turn, and the posable front wheels are connected by a tie rod. The distinctive Alfa wheels are beautifully molded and wear no-name black rubber tires.

Despite a couple of small shortcomings, the Alfa's a great kit that will undoubtedly please sports- and racing-car modelers.
