Willys Paddy Wagon
MPC No. 704
Model Type: Injection-molded styrene snap kit
Molded Colors: Blue, black, clear
Scale: 1/24
MSRP: See dealer
Pros: Simple construction
Cons: Excessive flash; heavy plating; off-contact stance
To say that the Willys Paddy Wagon is a "simple" kit is perhaps an understatement. The parts count is low, so assembly is rapid; it took less than an hour to complete the model, aside from applying decals to the body. That said, I found this kit to be disappointing in several respects:

There was quite a bit of flash on the parts in my kit, so extra "trimming time" was needed to clean things up.

The chrome plating was heavy, to the point that it affected parts fit in a few places, so again, trimming was needed.

After chassis assembly, the model sat quite a bit "off-contact" (only three wheels on the ground). The parts fit in their locator holes OK, which would seem to indicate some parts were warped or otherwise twisted.

I disassembled the chassis and adjusted the distance some parts were pushed into their holes, until the model sat reasonably flat.

The water-slide white decals for the body are suitably opaque (so the blue-molded body doesn't show through), and application was no problem.

I wouldn't suggest this kit as a first model; perhaps a second.
