This is the latest release of a kit first offered between 1988-89. It builds a sleek 1969 Yenko Corvette. The Yenko dealership was known for its impressive performance modifications of GM cars. Yenko sold many high horsepower Corvettes that apart from tweaking and performance tuning, were otherwise mostly factory stock.

An eight-page instruction guide takes  you through the 23-step assembly. Parts and colors are called out by numbers and letters respectively. These correspond to a paint and part description chart.

The 427 cid V8 engine can be built either as a 390 horsepower, four-carb L36 or a 435 hp, tri-power L71. The L36 version is probably meant to mimic the 1:1’s L88/ZL1 engine but the kit lacks the high-rise manifold and correct-spec hood.

The two-piece block has a 4-speed transmission molded with it. All major components are separate. Note that when building the tri-power L71, the ignition shield on the air cleaner will not cover the distributor without modification and there isn’t an alternator bracket.

The chassis is a good representation of a true C3 generation Vette. Frame and floor pan are molded as one and its frame rails in the engine compartment are open on the top. You may want to fill them.

The front suspension consists of six pieces, the rear has five. A separate steering box has a steering shaft that passes through the firewall but the box doesn’t connect to the tie rod. Optional side pipe exhausts are included.

A crisp, accurate body requires the usual cleanup of mold separation lines.

Choose between a standard or the supplied hood from the Baldwin-Motion version. The hood, tail lights and rear license frame should be installed before the chassis.

If using the optional luggage rack, take note the mounting holes need to be opened at this time.

The emblems are lightly molded and since the decal sheet carries the emblems as graphics, the body emblems were removed and replaced with decals. Also on the new decal sheet are both white and black hood stripes.

Its interior consists of a tub with separate seats, dash and door panel inserts. The door panel inserts are of the 1968 model’s design. Both tachometer and speedometer decals are included but there’s nothing for the smaller gauges. When painted black, these gauge dials have raised markings that can be scraped revealing the white plastic.

Accurate to the 1:1 Vette, there isn’t a radio and the windshield includes well-fitting visors.

GM rally or Cragar-style wheels mate up to four generic whitewall tires.                                                 

A few issues were noticed during the build, like how the inner fenders are slotted for the hood pins. Make sure these pins are trapped in the slots.

To get a good fit with the rear glass, the body opening needed attention.

Instructions show the radiator support mounted to the chassis prior to installing the body, but it won’t clear the inner fenders. The solution is to feed the radiator assembly over the fan after installing the body, but before securing the frame to the body. It helps to mount the fan in an “X” position, not a cross.

While it required a little thought during assembly this was an enjoyable build. And those emblem decals really make this model pop!
