Applying decals

RELATED TOPICS: DECALS
Tips: Two readers sent in tips on soaking up excess water when applying decals.

Ron Sussman, of Newington, Conn., wrote: "I'm a casual modeler, mostly HO scale trucks. When I apply decals, I slip them off the paper using a flat-ended, dry artists' paintbrush. I smooth the decal with the brush, which also takes away some of the excess water. I finish the job by using a cotton swab to blot excess water around the decal's edges."

"Moose" Trapasso, of Las Vegas, Nev., solves the same problem this way: "I use a compressed sponge, found in any well-stocked art supply store. They come in 8"x 10" sheets or 4"x 5" cards. Just cut off a piece and touch it to one corner of your wet decal. The water will be drawn into the sponge like a magnet."
