Dust ring around decals

RELATED TOPICS: DECALS
Q: When I put decals on a white car, the edges always collect dust and dirt, and a dirty "ring" forms around the decal. What can prevent this? Should I clearcoat over the decal?

Ken: Decal Dust: Dirt will sometimes collect at the edge of the decal film. If the dirt is forming a ring around the body of the decal, try trimming the decal as close as possible to the emblem (or lettering, or whatever the subject of the decal is) to eliminate the "halo."

The most important solution is also the easiest: Keep your models clean by dusting them periodically, or by cleaning the edges of the decals with a moist cotton swab.

Clear Over Decals: Although some modelers like to do it, I wouldn't recommend clearcoating over decals. It doesn't really add anything to the equation, and you never know how the decal film will react to the clear.
