Scratchbuilding on-column shifters

Tip: Certain cars that I've built have required on-column shifters, and here's my method for making them.

When I buy a new shirt, I keep all of the straight pins. I file down the ball into the shape that I need, and paint it appropriate color. I then drill a small hole in the steering column, slide the pin through, and bend it to the angle needed.

I use the other end of the pin as the turn-signal lever. I mark the end of the pin for the right length, pull it back out, and then cut it. The pin "shifter" is then reinserted and the tip of the turn-signal lever end is finished off with a dab of white glue.
