Securing side mirrors

Q: I have ruined a couple paint jobs because the mirrors shifted during placement, and the glue wasn't right. They tend to sag, weeks after drying.

Ken: Wherever possible, the best way to secure a side mirror is to pin it in place. Before painting the body, drill a small hole in the bottom of the mirror and insert a short pin (a piece of a straight pin or small-diameter wire). Drill a corresponding locator hole on the body. After the car is painted, put a drop of super glue on the pin and stick it in the hole. That should do the trick.
