Ken: That’s a great question, Mickey, and it sparked quite a bit of discussion here in the workshop.

Every modeler has a favorite tool – one that he/she always seems to reach for, even when other similar (and perhaps better) tools might be nearby.

My Number 1 favorite tool is an old file, of unknown origin, that I’ve had for many years.

It’s small and easy to handle; the tip broke off years ago; it has a “mildly aggressive” tooth pattern that fits all applications; and it’s impossible to clog.

My second-favorite tool, which I would enthusiastically recommend to anyone who uses bottle paints, is the battery operated paint stirrer from Micro-Mark. It’s just about the most handy paint mixer I’ve ever seen. Look for it at the Micro-Mark Web site.

So, readers: what’s your favorite tool? Let us know, and we’ll pass it along in future installments of “Tips & Tech.”
