Branding

RELATED TOPICS: DECALS
Tip: I like to add detail to otherwise overlooked items on a model by using a technique I call “branding.”

I snip off a small portion of a decal, and place it on a piece such as shocks, fuel/oil filters, alternators, etc.  I try to use labels that are appropriate for the item – for instance, a Fram decal on an oil filter or DieHard on a battery – but sometimes that’s not possible.

When the piece being labeled is so small that any writing would be indistinguishable, I just use whatever looks reasonably good from a distance.  Having a splash of color is sometimes enough to draw your attention, and give the illusion of greater detail.
