Reprinting old decal sheets; painting exhaust headers

RELATED TOPICS: DECALS
Tip: I live in France, and I’m a longtime subscriber to Scale Auto. I always read the “Tips & Tech” pages with great interest, and I think it’s time for me to share a few ideas:

1) When I have an old decal sheet that is too old to work, I scan it in high resolution and save it in my computer. I can then reprint it with my home printer and a blank decal sheet.

2) When I paint exhaust headers, I apply a flat red-brown coat (red-oxide primer style). When it’s dry, I apply a light coat of silver or aluminum.

While the silver paint is still wet, I remove some of it with a brush dipped in thinner. Like that, the red “primer” will appear on some random places, just as on a lightly rusted 1:1 one.

You can apply some Rustall over the finished part, to strengthen the effect.
