Weathering paint with 91-percent isopropyl alcohol

RELATED TOPICS: WEATHERING
Tip: I know about using 91-percent isopropyl alcohol to strip paint, but I found that it also works if you want to weather paint.

I needed to repair a small section of paint on a recent model. I tried dabbing the area with the alcohol on a cotton swab, which lifted the paint in that small area, so I tried it over the whole car to give the appearance of faded and weathered paint. It takes some practice and a little getting used to, but it works.

After weathering the body, I applied a thin wash of white to tie everything together and add more of an “old road dirt” look.
