Affordable catalyzing putty

RELATED TOPICS: PUTTY
Tip: You recently had a reader ask if Evercoat 2-Part Polyester Glazing Putty came in a smaller, more-economical quantity. Unfortunately, it doesn’t.

However, I’ve found a way to use catalyzing putty and spend only half as much. I’ve been using a product called “Icing” by US Chemical & Plastics Co. (USC). The product number is 26006, and it can be found at many auto-parts stores or on line.

Evercoat is more than $35 for a pint, but Icing comes in a smaller tube and can be found for $18-$20.

Another plus: Icing sits on its cap, allowing the putty run down to the opening to create a seal for the rest of the putty in the tube.

There may still be some waste, but at least it doesn’t cost as much.

I also like the way Icing feathers when it’s sanded.
