Sanding and polishing hard-to-reach places

Q: I picked up a set of aftermarket spoked aluminum wheels that I’d like to polish, but the polishing pads and cloths I have can’t get into and around the spokes.

I also need something that will remove flash from plastic and resin hard-to-reach places, too. Where can I look?

Ken: Tough places can be sanded and polished with a variety of shaped Swiss files, but an easier way is to pick up some jeweler’s abrasive cord and/or tape.

These rolls of round cord and flat tape are impregnated with various abrasive grits of aluminum oxide, crocus and silicon carbide, and are used by woodworkers, plumbers, electronics technicians, and hobbyists in all sorts of sanding and polishing applications.

The small-diameter cords can easily reach through holes to sand and polish your spoked wheels.
