Can I mix different brands of lacquer together?

RELATED TOPICS: LACQUER
Q: I usually try not to mix brands of paint when I do a multicolor paint job, but for one particular build, I'd like to use Testor's One Coat and Model Master lacquers. Will that be a problem?

Thanks for the help.

Ken: You should be good to go. Those two brands of lacquer (in fact, most brands of hobby lacquers) are usually compatible with each other.

But it’s always a good idea to experiment on a scrap body, just to make sure.

One of your main concerns is the choice of primer; some hobby primers don’t react well to lacquers.

The boys here in the Workshop don’t take any chances, and always use automotive-grade primers such as Dupli-color or our favorite, Plastikote Gray Sandiable Primer T-235. That way, you don’t have to worry about how “hot” any of the top coats may be.
