Tip of the Month: Custom graphics

Custom-graphics
The T.O.M. for the June 2014 issue comes from our good friend and expert model builder Steve Hinson, who demonstrates a simple way to make custom graphics.

The idea is to transfer a custom design onto masking tape, which can then be cut out and taped to your project car.  A little bit of computer skill and a rudimentary graphic program are required for this technique, but the process is pretty simple — not to mention clever.

First, you'll need to create a design in your graphics program. Print the design on ordinary paper, and tape a piece of waxed paper over the graphic.

Cut your favorite masking material and tape it to the waxed paper, directly over the graphic design.

Reinsert the paper into the printer and run it through again. The image will print on the tape, which can then be easily peeled off the waxed paper, cut out, and applied to your project.

After the mask is in place, spray the custom design, using your favorite spray technique.
