Installing side trim

RELATED TOPICS: TRIM
Tip: When I was installing the lengthy, scratchbuilt side trim (.040" half-round styrene) on my latest model, I aligned the trim by stretching a length of masking tape just above the line where I wanted the side trim to be.

I worked in sections, applying glue to each part of the half-round and butting it up against the tape.

When the last section was in place, the side trim was straight, and gave the pleasing appearance I wanted.

Ken: That’s a perfect way to ensure a perfect line, Steve.

If I can run with your idea, using tape as a guide is also a good way to produce a slightly curved line. Stretching the tape allows you to experiment with various configurations of custom side trim before taking the plunge and gluing the trim onto the side of the car.
